From Salt Spring Island, we wish all of our friends and guests – old and new – a Happy New Year! During Christmas and New Year’s we had several guests who enjoyed the tranquility of the island. They soaked in our hot tub and relaxed in our rooms full of books (no TV!).
Our free range chickens provide large brown, organic eggs for breakfast every morning. Today I weeded our lavender patch – gardening on January 2!
Come visit us in January and February for a relaxing break.Arbutus in Ruckle Provincial Park

Giving Thanks

Sunday, October 4, 2009 10:22

October 12 is Thanksgiving in Canada. It’s always earlier than in the U.S. because Canadian crops are ready that much earlier. We give thanks for the bounty on our apple trees, our plethora of eggs, the blue skies over Salt Spring and, of course, to all of our guests who made our first season such a tremendous success!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Sailing Around Salt Spring

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 21:51

September 23 – 30ºC – blue skies – a perfect day to go for a sail. Today we treated ourselves to a 4 hour sail on L’Orenda, a sail ship offering tours out of Ganges Harbour. While owner and guide Don worked the sails, we lazily enjoyed the sunshine, ate our salmon salad croissants and enjoyed the view. The wind picked up and took us past Chocolate Beach and close to Prevost Island. What a way to spend a late summer day!

You can see more details on the L’Orenda here: www.haynes.ca/sail

Visiting Salt Spring Island

Monday, September 21, 2009 21:58

If you plan to visit Salt Spring, check out some of the small airlines that service our island. Seair, Harbour Air and Salt Spring Air all fly into Ganges Harbour, from the Vancouver Airport or downtown as well as from Victoria. It’s a thrilling way to see the Gulf Islands and may not cost much more than bringing your car on the ferry twice. You will also arrive within half an hour instead of spending hours waiting and driving! For a small $5 fee we offer pick up from ferry or seaplane terminals.

After ordering laying hens in May, they finally arrived today! We are now happy to have a dozen large, brown chickens living in our little red and white barn. We can’t wait to have our own large, brown eggs to serve at breakfast!chicken-1
