The blossom trees are at their peak, the tulips are still out and the grass is green. Today we celebrated Earth Day in the park.
This week we’ve had guests from Ireland, from Spain, from New Zealand and this coming week we will be hosting people from Japan. It’s good to show them the beauty of our west coast paradise.
From Salt Spring Island, we wish all of our friends and guests – old and new – a Happy New Year! During Christmas and New Year’s we had several guests who enjoyed the tranquility of the island. They soaked in our hot tub and relaxed in our rooms full of books (no TV!).
Our free range chickens provide large brown, organic eggs for breakfast every morning. Today I weeded our lavender patch – gardening on January 2!
Come visit us in January and February for a relaxing break.
Staying on Salt Spring Island will allow you to be in a green, relaxed environment away from all the traffic. It’s a short 25 minute flight on one of 3 airlines which operate float planes from Ganges Harbour to either downtown Vancouver or the airport.
When you stay we us during the Olympics we offer free pick up and delivery to the float plane dock. Our rates remain at $95 per night however only our Fiction Room is available so book early!
October 12 is Thanksgiving in Canada. It’s always earlier than in the U.S. because Canadian crops are ready that much earlier. We give thanks for the bounty on our apple trees, our plethora of eggs, the blue skies over Salt Spring and, of course, to all of our guests who made our first season such a tremendous success!
Happy Thanksgiving!
September 23 – 30ºC – blue skies – a perfect day to go for a sail. Today we treated ourselves to a 4 hour sail on L’Orenda, a sail ship offering tours out of Ganges Harbour. While owner and guide Don worked the sails, we lazily enjoyed the sunshine, ate our salmon salad croissants and enjoyed the view. The wind picked up and took us past Chocolate Beach and close to Prevost Island. What a way to spend a late summer day!
If you plan to visit Salt Spring, check out some of the small airlines that service our island. Seair, Harbour Air and Salt Spring Air all fly into Ganges Harbour, from the Vancouver Airport or downtown as well as from Victoria. It’s a thrilling way to see the Gulf Islands and may not cost much more than bringing your car on the ferry twice. You will also arrive within half an hour instead of spending hours waiting and driving! For a small $5 fee we offer pick up from ferry or seaplane terminals.
The vacancy we had for this current weekend was filled up quickly. September 18 + 19 is Fall Fair weekend on Salt Spring. We have rooms open on Thursday and Sunday the 20th but nothing in between. I do hope you will enjoy the Fair, the sun, the apples!
This weekend we had a bookseller from Dubuque, Iowa here with her family. Check out Prairie Lights Bookstore at www.rlb2e.com.
We also just had a cancellation for next weekend. If you would like to stay with us, contact us a.s.a.p. for availability next Friday and Saturday. We also have a few week days open in the Poetry Room.
